Fabio Egue (Rey) was born in Villa Clara, Cuba on October 15, 2000. In Cuba he completed his elementary and part of his High School years. Later in 2016, his family moved to United States; and lived in California, where he finished his last two years of High School. In June 2017 they moved to Miami, Florida. Ajedrez is Fabio’s first foray into cinema.
Magda Quiala (Abuela) was born in Habana, Cuba on October 14, 1957. In 1978, she began her career in medicine at the University of Havana. During those years, she participated actively in an amateur theatre group founded by students under the guidance of professors from the Instituto Superior de Arte. Within this group, she participated in a few festivals winning best performance awards in 1978 and 1980. In 2004 she moved to the United States, where she works as Sr. Research Assistant at the University of Miami. Ajedrez is her first foray into cinema.
Luis Placido González (Marcos) was born in Havana, Cuba, on August 13, 2003. He studied part of his elementary and High School years in Spain. Later, his family moved to United States, where Luis is currently studying in a Medicine Magnet Program from High School. Ajedrez is his first foray into cinema.
Ana Alejandra Larez was born in Venezuela. She moved to United States where she got her degree in Arts with a major in Journalism from Broward College. She earned her Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Film, Television, and Digital Production from the School of Entertainment & Design Technology at Miami Dade College. Additionally, Ana obtained a certificate of Radio Broadcasting, Diction, and Public Presentation from Pangea Academy, where she was the producer and host of the radio show Tremendo Lio at PangeaFM.com. She works as a content producer and editor for MedicosTV.
Alejandro Gonzalez Valdes was born in Cuba. He graduated as a Sound Recordist of Cinema from the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC). He worked in the sound post-production of the Cuban films: El Benny(2006), La Pared(2006), Mauricio ́s Diary(2006), and Madrigal(2007). Later, he moved to United States where he earned his BAS in Film Television and Digital Production from the School of Entertainment and Design Technology at Miami Dade College. Ajedrez (Chess) (2018) is his short film directorial debut.
Amy Calderon was born in the Dallas, Texas. Always being a passionate about films, music, videos and commercials, she graduated in 2017 with an Associate in Science degree in Film Production Technology from the School of Entertainment & Design Technology at Miami Dade College. She has worked in the production of commercials for Pollo Tropical and Cerveza Victoria. Also she worked in a project segment for Discovery Channel. Amy was a video editor for St. Louis Catholic Church. She is currently studying to pursue a Bachelor of Applied Science in Film, Television and Digital Production.
Jeily Olmo was born in Havana, Cuba. She studied at the Faculty of Audiovisual Media (FAMCA) of the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in Havana. Later, she moved to United States where she completed her Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Film, Television, and Digital Production at Miami Dade College. She has developed a successful career as an independent artist and television producer. In 2014 her work as a producer and director earned her the first place in the 48 Hours Festival “It’s Your Town” in the category of local artists. In 2016, Jeily also earned the Emmy Regional Award as part of the production team for the TV series “Soy TED.” Jeily has collaborated with various local institutions and art organizations including Antiheroes Project and Artefactus Cultural Project.
Ivan Oms most recent work as Cinematographer is for the documentary “Throughout the years”… (2017). Ivan is an Award Winner at the (United Latino Film Festival and New York Jazz Film Festival) He was born in Havana, Cuba. At the age of 17 Ivan started working at the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) as camera Assistant, Focus Puller and Operator. He has directed Cinematography since then, known for his films “Adios Madres” (Goodbye Mothers) (2007) one of many of his outstanding achievements throughout his life. His expertise as a Cinematographer also based on his 23 years of work in Europe as well as in several countries of Africa and Latin America. In 2015 he moved to Miami, FL. USA, where he worked as Camera/Editor. Adding a 36 years in total as a cameraman to his curriculum.
Leonardo Leon was born in Havana, Cuba, where he graduated as a graphic designer at the Instituto Superior de Diseño (ISDi) in 2008. He moved to United States, where he has developed as a Graphic and Web Designer focused on brand conceptualization, illustration, and photo editing. Leonardo is a creative talent that delivers outstanding results. He is also a web connoisseur and a multimedia designer; creating, coding and modifying websites to provide visually appealing structures that feature a clear and user-friendly navigation. His drive for excellence, passion for innovation, and cooperative spirit has contributed to an expansive business network within the Versal Studios’ portfolio. Ajedrez is his first foray into cinema.
Guillermo Jose Ursini is a sound mixer/desirgner and audio editor with experience in Film, Tv and Radio. Having worked in films shooting, documentaries, TV shows, radio stations and advertising. Sound Postproduction in Pro Tools. Currently owner of “Play FM” radio station and “Estudio U” sound studio with own equipment. Over 20 years working in the business with steady growth. Highly demanding on the quality of work and constant training and learning.
Steven Salgado was born in Peru. He is an awarded actor and director. He has directed more than ten short films. Last short film Tango Dreams (2016) obtained an Award of Commendation in Canada Short Film Festival 2017. It also won best Inspirational Short Film in 15 Minutes of Fame Film Festival and Best Audience Award in Film Gate Miami 2016. Steven completed an Associate of Arts Degree in Film Production at Miami Dade College where he is also pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Film Television and Digital Production.
Letisol Mendez Patino was born in México. She moved to the United States in 1993. In 2014 she was given the opportunity to pursue higher education, being awarded with a scholarship from The DreamUS. Devoting her time to lending a helping hand to others, she is a former volunteer with the non-profit organization Farm Share at Miami Dade College. In 2017, she completed an Associate in Science degree in Radio & Television Broadcasting, making her first-generation college graduate, and first women in her extended family to attend college. She is pursuing her Bachelor of Science Degree in Film Television and Digital Production.
